Marine Biogeochemistry Lab
We research the ocean and atmosphere to better understand Earth systems and climate.
The Marine Biogeochemistry Lab at the University of Cape Town (UCT-MBL) is a world-class oceanic and atmospheric biogeochemistry laboratory established to address large- and small-scale research questions in Earth Science, particularly those that leverage South Africa’s geographic advantage. The laboratory is equipped with cutting-edge infrastructure, much of it unique on the African continent, that is available to support high-quality, high-visibility, and high-impact research and to train the next generation of South African Earth scientists. The laboratory is founded on the philosophy that addressing local and global research questions using increasingly innovative techniques is fundamental to UCT’s commitment to being “an inclusive and engaged research-intensive African university that inspires creativity through outstanding achievements in learning, discovery, and citizenship […], advancing a more equitable and sustainable social order, and influencing the global higher education landscape”.
The UCT-MBL is committed to fostering a diverse, equitable, and inclusive environment for research and education. All laboratory users are expected to behave professionally and respectfully; discrimination or harassment of any kind is not tolerated.
